picspam: terrence malick films

Terrence Malick is one of my all-time favorite directors. He has only made four films (a fifth is on the way however), but I love all four of them. His style is very unique, his films mostly take place out in the nature (in really beautiful surroundings), and they're narrated by a usually distinctive voice. The films are devastatingly beautiful, every shot is pretty much perfection. Most of the time I just want to crawl into them and bathe in the beauty. (I'm such a wordsmith :P) The fact that he also wrote all films (although one of them are based on a novel) makes him even more impressive, because besides the visual beauty of the films, they also contain beautiful language, almost poetry, and the stories are told in interesting and innovative ways. I really cannot stress how much I recommend these films. If you haven't seen them, do it! :)

Badlands (1973)

Holly Sargis: One day, while taking a look at some vistas in Dad's stereopticon, it hit me that I was just this little girl, born in Texas, whose father was a sign painter, who only had just so many years to live. It sent a chill down my spine and I thought where would I be this very moment, if Kit had never met me? Or killed anybody... this very moment... if my mom had never met my dad... if she had never died. And what's the man I'll marry gonna look like? What's he doing right this minute? Is he thinking about me now, by some coincidence, even though he doesn't know me? Does it show on his face? For days afterwards I lived in dread. Sometimes I wished I could fall asleep and be taken off to some magical land, and this never happened.

Days Of Heaven (1978)

Linda: I met this guy named Ding-Dong. He told me the whole Earth is goin' up in flame. Flames will come out of here and there and they'll just rise up. The mountains are gonna go up in big flames, the water's gonna rise in flames. There's gonna be creatures runnin' every which way, some of them burnt, half of their wings burnin'. People are gonna be screamin' and hollerin' for help. See, the people that have been good - they're gonna go to heaven and escape all that fire. But if you've been bad, God don't even hear you. He don't even hear ya talkin'.

The Thin Red Line (1998)

First Sgt. Edward Welsh: Everything a lie. Everything you hear, everything you see. So much to spew out. They just keep coming, one after another. You're in a box. A moving box. They want you dead, or in their lie... There's only one thing a man can do - find something that's his, and make an island for himself. If I never meet you in this life, let me feel the lack; a glance from your eyes, and my life will be yours.

The New World (2005)

Captain John Smith: Who are you whom I so faintly hear? Who urge me ever on? What voice is this that speaks within me... guides me towards the best? We shall make a new start. A fresh beginning. Here the blessings of the earth are bestowed upon all. None need grow poor. Here there is good ground for all, and no cost but one's labor. We shall build a true common wealth, hard work and self reliance our virtues. We shall have no landlords to reack us with high rents or extort the fruit of our labor.

You know the drill people, no reposting of this anywhere (like tumblr for example). Thanks. :)
